Some Grammar in Relation to some Words from the Previous Post

Some words from the vocabs I decided to add as a 'little' extra on the previous post involved some grammar rules I wanted to teach you about, since I happen to kinda know about them:

First of all, something that applies to pretty much any color:

Regarding the word 'blue', we've come across 2 versions of it; あお and あおい.

So what is the difference? あお is a noun; The color itself. When using 'blue' as an adjective to use to describe other nouns, you use あおい. For example; a blue car = あおい くるま (kuruma = car).

すしや appears. すし means the food sushi, and -や can be added behind words like this to turn them into stores, or similar places. Other examples of this being a thing include:

だがしや - (small time) candy store (snoep winkeltje). Can also mean 'candy maker'.

I don't know much more about this, so let's wait till we see it come by in class. I still figured I'd let you know :>

-もの is a suffix we can use to turn a word into 'thing(s)', basically.. It works like so:

かいもの - shopping goods. (this word appeared in the previous post)

たべもの - various types of foods together, like a bag full of different edible groceries.

のみもの - various drinks... etc.

Vacations from school and the like, are said by taking the season and adding -やすみ at the end.

はる - spring

なつ - summer

あき - autumn

ふゆ - winter

So, summer break would be なつやすみ, and winter break would be ふゆやすみ.

Celebratory dates like Christmas as still called クリスマス (kurisumasu).
